Next week (January 13) we are going to have our semester final. That will give me time to grade it and finish your grades. Your last Morrissey song analysis is due this Friday. Remember you can do an extra one (of the six) if you want extra credit.

Your final exam will cover everything we have learned in class this year. You can use a index card (up to 5″ x 8″ size) for a cheat sheet.

Your test will have several different components:

  • Grammar
  • Vocabulary
  • Literary Terms
  • Short Stories–review the basic plot, setting, characterization, conflict, and themes of each story
  • The Importance of Being Earnest–review the basic plot, setting, characterization, conflict, and themes
  • The Picture of Dorian Gray–review the basic plot, setting, characterization, conflict, and themes

You will NEED to go back and review and study in depth. This may take 1-2 hours a day. You may want to start this weekend. Public school kids study for their finals on the weekends, so please don’t think I am asking too much.

On the last test some of you did poorly on your literary terms. There is no excuse for you to miss any on this test.

If you don’t remember the vocabulary, you may need to make flash cards for the harder words.

Homework:

Monday–

  • Review Week 1 and 2 of Literary Terms
  • Review Grammar: Adjectives and Adverbs (Weeks: 1, 2, and 5)
  • Review “The Most Dangerous Game,” “Marigolds,” “Thank You, M’am”
  • Last Morrissey song for the Poetry of Music Unit

Tuesday–

  • Review Week 3 & 4 of Literary Terms
  • Review Grammar: Appositives (Week 3)
  • Review “The Cask of Amontillado,” “The Necklace,” and “The Sound of Thunder”
  • Last Morrissey song for the Poetry of Music Unit

  • Review Grammar: Pronouns and Possessive Pronouns (Week 8 and 10)
  • Review “The Importance of Being Earnest”

After our Final Exam we will move into our poetry unit. I am so excited for this that I am all creative and wanting to writing poetry myself. 😀 I might have you join me!!!

When I was at Rowland I was teaching my kids how to write poetry and I ended up writing this poem in class about my cat called “Gizmo the Hebrew Gangster.” It was hilarious. I need to find it.
