I wanted to throw this out there. This summer Romeo and Juliet will be performed in an outdoor professional theater in Garden Grove. It looks wonderful. Preview Night tickets (Thursday July 2) are only $15.00. This is an excellent deal.
Here is a description of the play. It looks like they are going to enhance the story with a multicultural flair. It says it is appropriate for all ages, even kids.
Here is the description:
Romeo & Juliet promises to be another landmark production on the heels of last year’s groundbreaking and nationally-recognized A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which The O.C. Register called “A triumph of pure genius!”
Starring acclaimed Vietnamese-American TV star Trieu Tran (Uncle Ho, The Newsroom, Tropic Thunder) as Romeo, and featuring Santa Ana’s renowned 50 year-old Mexican Folklórico troupe Relámpago del Cielo, led by SoCal Woman of The Year Marlene Peña-Marin, this co-production with VAALA (The Vietnamese American Arts and Letters Association) reflects today’s multicultural society not as one race against the other, but as the amazing melting pot we’ve become. With the music of students from Orange County School of the Arts, cultural dance, and dazzling fight sequences, you won’t want to miss this spectacular and unforgettable summer show for all ages. Directed by Producing Artistic Director John Walcutt and Associate Artistic Director Mike Peebler (The Tavern). Your friends. Your kids. Your town.
Shakespeare By The Sea
Another opportunity would be Shakespeare By The Sea–They are performing As You Like It and The Tempest this summer. I would prefer to see The Tempest with you. They have multiple locations. They are all outside and free. We would bring low lawn chairs, blankets and snacks. It looks like the prettiest locations are:
Irvine Valley College–Live Oak Theater
Saturday, August 8 at 7pm: The Tempest
Sunday, August 16 at 7pm: The Tempest
August 21 at 8pm: The Tempest
But the CLOSEST location is Rowland Heights (so close)
Wednesday, July 22 at 7pm: The Tempest
It would be really nice if we could even do both. I would like that!
Please let me know if you are interested in either of these cool opportunities.
The Griffith Park Shakespeare Festival is also offering free outdoor Romeo and Juliet performances this summer too.
